Anchored by an opening round 65, David Ober and Craig Steinberg captured the 2023 Senior Four-Ball championship with ease, winning by three strokes at one of the most difficult courses in Southern California.
The duo went low at La Purisima GC in round one, posting seven-under 65 and racing to a four-stroke clubhouse lead. Steinberg, a four-time SCGA Amateur champion, accounted for five birdies as part of a three-under 69 individual performance.
Despite windy conditions on the second day, Ober and Steinberg battled to card another round in the red. Steinberg rolled in an insurance birdie on No. 10, though no group came within three strokes of the leaders. Ober and Steinberg finished with a two-round total of eight-under 136.
With the win, Steinberg adds to his impressive amateur resume while Ober enjoys his first time in the SCGA winners circle. Derek Patao & Philip Hurlbut finished in second place (-5), followed by Dan Sullivan & Robert Funk (-4) and Craig Calkins & Steve Jones (-4).
