The duo of Jeff Burda and Jim Knoll edged out the competition to earn its first SCGA Senior Four-Ball crown at Coto De Caza.
Consistency paid off the Burda/Knoll team as they shot an opening round 66 on Monday and followed that up with a final round 65, sealing the deal with a total of 131 for the tournament.
Burda/Knoll just topped the team of Jeff Johnston and Craig Steinberg who shot a first round of 68, but came right back with a blistering final round of 64, totaling 132 and finishing just one stroke off the lead.
Andy Horner and Jeffery Thomas were within striking distance as well, going 65 – 68 for a total of 133 and third place.
After the top three, there were a barrage of teams that tied for fourth place with totals of 136.
The teams of Mark Miller/Steve Wilson, Clark Heath/Ted Olsen, Steve Martin/Steve Bogan, Patrick Carrigan/Michael Turner and Rich Simonin/Tim Hernandez all finished in the deadlock.
Both Burda and Knoll continued their previous SCGA success with the victory. Burda is a two-time SCGA Senior Amateur Champion, while Knoll won the 2013 California Senior Amateur Championship, an event Burda has won three times.
The SCGA Senior Four-Ball Championship is open to two-person teams. Each player’s index must not exceed 7.4 and all players must be the age of 55 and above.
