After falling short in the latest Seaver Cup, Team SCGA stormed back and claimed the 2025 edition of the California Amateur Cup Matches at Mission Hills CC. This event brings together the best amateur players from the Northern California Golf Association (NCGA) and Southern California Golf Association (SCGA), with the winner receiving the esteemed Seaver Cup, named after Charles Seaver. The competition is played every two years and was created in 1998 at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.
Team SCGA asserted themselves early, winning the Four-Ball portion of the event 18.5-11.5. The team backed it up on Day Two, taking the singles by a score of 33.5-26.5 to complete a wire-to-wire victory.
In the end, Team SCGA reclaimed the California Amateur Cup with a decisive 52-38 victory. Before Team NCGA laid claim to the trophy in 2023, Team SCGA rattled off consecutive wins in 2021 and 2019. Prior to that run, the NCGA dominated the biennial event with four straight victories from 2011-17.
Team SCGA’s singles wins came from Nik Neal, Stephanie Tran, Grant Martens, Corby Segal, Diane Irvin, Wendy Ohlmeyer, Ramiz Jamal, Shelly Haywood, Trae Cassell and Tim Hogarth.
