John Kim racked up the hardware at Temecula Creek GC, winning his first One-Day Series Championship with a 5&4 win over Bob Modrich to add to his second consecutive One-Day Series Player of the Year honors.
The top 32 players on the SCGA One-Day Series points list were invited to compete for the championship title. After stroke play on day one, the field was cut to just eight players and set up a single-elimination match play format for the final two days. Kim finished his round at net one-over par, good enough to qualify for the match play portion of the championship.
In the quarterfinals, Kim faced off against Adam Buffini, taking the victory by a score of 4&3 after jumping out to a commanding 4-up lead through the first nine holes of the match. Coming back out to the course later that same day for the semifinals, Kim would take down Ferdinand Ison in what would be a closer match that finished 3&1, closing the deal with a net par on the 17th hole.
Facing off against Bob Modrich in the final, Kim would immediately take control of the match, taking a 2-up lead through the first two holes of play. Modrich would battle back and win Nos. 5 and 6, but Kim would immediately strike back on No. 7 and take his 2-up lead into the turn. The back nine would start much like the front for Kim, who would win Nos. 10, 13 and 14 to seal the deal and win the 2026 SCGA One-Day Series Championship for the first time.
