Two of the most recognizable SCGA players of this generation teamed up to capture the SCGA Four-Ball Championship at Oakmont CC. 2018 SCGA Player of the Year Corby Segal and three-time SCGA Player of the Year Tim Hogarth formed an iconic duo, leading to their first-ever Four-Ball Championship.
Hogarth, who’s now won every SCGA Championship that he’s been eligible for, continues to be grateful to his friend and partner in Segal.
“It’s great to complete this slam that I’ve been chasing for a long time,” said Hogarth. “But Corby is Player of the Year for a reason. I know who the stronger player was this week and I’m thankful for him.”
The dynamic duo jumped out to a three-stroke lead on the strong field after the first round, preparing everyone for the inevitable. But it was far from the smoothest of sailing during the final round, as the field came charging. Hogarth/Segal went out at 3-under with three birdies, but sputtered on the way in as they carded an even-par 35 with one birdie and one bogey, leaving the door cracked open.
It proved to be too big of a hill to climb for the chasers, as John Pate and Brandon Gama tied for second place with Ramie Sprinkling and Nathan Celusta at 9-under, one stroke off the pace.
Segal, who was recently named SCGA Player of the Year at the Association’s Annual Meeting, was also gracious when talking about his long-time partner.
“Tim is more prepared than me 99 percent of the tournaments,” said Segal. “But he knows how hard I grind so we make the perfect team. This one feels good.”
