Four-Ball Championship

Marsh, Pate win 2014 SCGA Four-Ball Championship

November 4, 2014

Results

Both have an illustrious SCGA tournament resume, but for the first time as a duo, Kevin Marsh and John Pate captured the title of SCGA Four-Ball Champions, winning the 2014 playing of the event with a two-day score of 12-under par. For Pate, it was his first win in the event, while Marsh hoisted the trophy for a record third time, having previously won the tournament in 2008 and 2009 with partner George Downing.

Playing at Saticoy CC, the duo of Marsh and Pate found themselves in the driver's seat throughout the two-day, 36-hole event, finishing Round 1 atop the leaderboard in a tie for first place. The team shot an opening round score of 5-under par 67. But Marsh, a former SCGA Amateur and California Amateur Champion, and Pate, also a former SCGA Amateur Champion, weren't the only recognizable names on the leaderboard, as 2014 SCGA Player of The Year Tim Hogarth, along with his partner Corby Segal, also blazed Saticoy for a 67. But it was only Marsh and Pate who could keep their foot on the gas peddle, following up their impressive round with an even better one, rounding out the tournament with an 18-hole score of 7-under par 65, edging out second-place finishers Nathan Celusta and Saticoy CC member Mark Nickeas by a stroke. Pate secured the win with a six-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole.

"It was great playing with John because the greens are just so tough here [at Saticoy], and he's such a good putter," said Marsh, who won his SCGA Amateur Championship at Saticoy CC in 2008.
