Jason Pridmore managed to secure his first-ever SCGA Senior Amateur Championship at the Ranch Course at the Alisal after extra golf was required, with Pridmore finally emerging victorious with a par on the fifth playoff hole.
The former professional motorcycle racer started off his first round on No. 10. Pridmore got off to a fast start, carding birdies on three of his first four holes to put him high on the leaderboard early at three-under. A bogey on No. 15 dropped him back to two-under going into the turn, but Pridmore responded with birdies on Nos. 1 and 4, finishing his first round of the championship at four-under. Pridmore teed it off from No. 1 to start his second round, with a bogey on No. 5 and a birdie on No. 8 cancelling each other out, leaving him at even par heading to the back nine. His back nine was almost an exact replica of his front nine, with a bogey on No. 13 followed by a birdie on No. 15, finishing his round out with an even-par 72. Going into the final day, Pridmore remained at four-under, five shots back from the leader.
Pridmore remained consistent during the final round of the championship, shooting an even-par round and finishing out his 54th hole with a clutch par to create a tie at the top of the leaderboard with his good friend Dick Engel. The pair, who won the SCGA Senior Foursomes Championship as a team earlier this year, had to go head-to-head in a playoff, remaining deadlocked through the first four holes. The 59th hole of the championship was where he finally broke through, with a par securing the win for Pridmore on the par-3 No. 18. Despite having to face each other with the hardware on the line, the two friends embodied the sportsmanship golf is built on, lifting each other up throughout the playoff while competing on one of the SCGA’s biggest stages. This win marked Pridmore’s first SCGA Senior Amateur Championship, capping off a special couple of weeks that also saw him walk away victorious from the Trans-Miss Senior Amateur Championship at Mission Hills CC.
