Eunice Cho emerged victorious in the battle of the UCLA golf alumnae as she bested Diane Irvin 6&4 to win the 2nd SCGA Senior Women’s Match Play Championship at Red Hill CC.
Entering the championship as the top-ranked golfer in the field, Cho cruised through her first two matchups, winning by scores of 7&5 and 3&2, respectively. It would be fellow UCLA alumna Debbie Kim who gave Cho the biggest challenge on her run to the finals, with Cho finding herself 1-down on the 13th tee. Cho would go on to turn the match around before eventually downing Kim on the 23rd hole of the match with a birdie to advance to the final against Irvin.
Cho carried that momentum into the championship match against Irvin. She struck early with a birdie on the second hole to take a 1-up lead, then seized control of the match on the front 9. A par on the fifth hole pushed her advantage to 2-up, with consecutive wins on Nos. 6 and 7 extending her lead to 4-up. Although Irvin responded by winning the eighth hole, Cho still made the turn with a commanding 3-up advantage.
Determined to close out the championship, Cho continued to apply pressure on the back nine, winning Nos. 10 and 11 with a par followed by a birdie to jump to 5-up over Irvin with seven holes potentially remaining. Cho and Irvin would then halve Nos. 12 and 13, but a birdie on No. 14 put an end to the proceedings and locked in the victory for Cho, who has now won the 2025 California Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, the 2026 SCGA Senior Women’s Amateur Championship and SCGA Senior Women’s Match Play Championship all within a 12-month span.
When asked about what the key to all her recent success on the course has been, Cho said, “I think I’m just really having a great time and enjoying it. I’m happy. It’s just fun, and I think that’s probably the reason why I’m playing well.”
