Matt Cohn, of San Francisco, certainly made his trip down to Soule Park GC in Ojai unforgettable by capturing the 2025 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship at Soule Park GC. Cohn opened up with a career-best 63 and set the tone early enroute to a wire-to-wire win. Sleeping on the lead proved to be no issue for Cohn as he picked up right where he left off in his second round, going out in 32 with two birdies and an eagle.
"I had three main goals going into this year, and I somehow accomplished all of them in my first tournament of the year," said Cohn. "I had my lowest round ever, was more than 11-under-par for a round and a tournament. I couldn't have a better way to get this year started."
Cohn would finish his first 36 holes at -12 and only need to fire an even round 71 on Wednesday to complete the victory and still clear the field by two shots.
"The level of play in Southern California is so high and to win with the quality of players in this field is a huge honor," said Cohn.
Cohn now sets his sights on pairing this championship with a win at the NCGA Mid-Amateur Championship in June.
Also of note, Soule Park GC, a beloved Southern California facility, became the first public golf course to host the SCGA Mid-Amateur in 42 years.
The top-five finishers, Matt Cohn, Nik Neal, Josh Gliege, Torey Edwards and Corby Segal, earned an exemption into the 2025 Amateur Championship at Torrey Pines GC later this summer.
