Ethan Chung battled through a mentally challenging championship round to capture his first SCGA title in the 2021 Match Play Championship, besting Cullen Brasfield.
The USC transfer, who is slated to attend Cal Berkley in the fall, jumped on Brasfield early and never let up. Chung raced out to a 4UP lead after six holes, winning No. 2, 3, 5 and 6 before Brasfield punched back on No. 9 to claw back into the match at 3UP making the turn.
The duo halved the first six holes on the back until the 16th when Brasfield nailed a birdie putt to extend the match. Chung earned a concession on the next hole however, after sticking his second shot close to the pin.
