Thirty-six holes weren’t enough to decide the 2019 Southern California Junior Amateur golf champion. It took an extra playoff hole for Zoe Campos to outlast Ashleigh Park and take home the title. Campos posted a par on the 37th hole and after a bogey by Park, the championship was decided.
The fifth-annual tournament hosted in conjunction with the SCPGA was held at Morongo at Tukwet Canyon GC and the conditions were tough as always. The only two players to finish the championship under par, both Campos and Park battled through what they said wasn’t their best performance.
“My putting was better today and I got that going today after yesterday being a little hard,” Campos said.
It was a challenging round that saw Campos struggle to find the fairway on multiple holes. Campos was relieved to still be able to hoist that trophy after a day that wasn’t her best.
“I actually finally hit a good tee shot on that [playoff] hole,” Campos said. “Getting the win was really nice.”
As for having to go to extra holes, Campos said she didn’t let it distract her too much and kept playing her game.
“I don’t think about it too much. I just think about it like you’re playing another 18 holes. I always play it hole-by-hole.”
