Dove Canyon GC shot a team score of 37 this year at Monarch Dunes GC, taking the trophy back to the Southland after Granite Bay GC's win at Poppy Hills GC last year. Dove Canyon GC was a powerhouse, racking up six more points than NorCal's Bayonet GC to take the name of best Scratch League team in California. In third place was NorCal Cameron Park GC and behind them, our friends at Victoria Club.

The league uses a format where every hole is worth 16 points–7 to the winner, 5 to second, 3 to third and 1 for fourth. Each player then competes against the other three players in the foursome. If all the players tie on a specific hole, each player receives four points.

Dove Canyon GC's captain Adam Capasso led the team, scoring seven points for the 2018 Champions.

“Going up the day before was a huge benefit because we had never played the course before,” Capasso said. “We accounted for the wet weather and took note to stay below the hole all day.”

Everyone on the team made a contribution, making for a consistent point spread across the board.

“We have a very deep roster of 15 guys, and none of our players are new to tournament play,” Capasso said. “With our active play outside of the Scratch League, it has created great comradery among everybody.”

Not only was this Dove Canyon GC’s first win, but their first time making it to the finals as well and they are already working towards the 2019 season.

"We have made it to the playoffs multiple times but never this far," said Capasso. "We are thrilled to identify as the best in the state!"
