After a first round that left her over par and with work to do, Jennifer Peng would ride the momentum of a strong start to her second round all the way to the top of the mountain, claiming the 2026 SCGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship by a single stroke.
The first round was a roller coaster of a day for the 2024 SCGA Women's Mid-Amateur Champion, with Peng carding four birdies and five bogeys, leaving her at +1 and three shots back from the lead with 18 holes to go. Peng’s second round would start off strong, with an early birdie on No. 11 helping her claw to within two strokes of the leaders. Another birdie on No. 15 would put her at two-under through six, but the real momentum shift would come on No. 18 where an eagle would catapult Peng into the lead for the first time at four-under for the day and three-under overall on the championship.
After bogeys on Nos. 2 and 7, Peng’s lead would shrink to just two strokes with just two holes left. A clutch par on No. 8 would give her some breathing room heading onto the last hole, needing just a bogey to win. After reaching the green in two tremendous shots, Peng would then three-putt to finish the championship at even par. The bogey on No. 9 would be just enough to secure the championship, beating out the eventual 2026 SCGA Senior Women’s Amateur Champion Eunice Cho and Peng’s playing partner Sherry Wright by a single stroke.
