Sunny Hills HS, in large part due to the impressive -9 effort from Individual Champion Cole Kim, ran away with the Team Championship in the CIF-SCGA SoCal Boys High School Championship at Los Serranos GC (South).

With a field containing some of the best young golfers SoCal has to offer, it was going to take a very low score for someone to win this championship outright, and Cole Kim stepped right up to that challenge. He would start his round on hole 10 and immediately go -1 with a birdie to kick off the day. Consistency was the name of the game for Kim, with four birdies and five pars, leaving him in the lead at -4 going into the turn. If you thought Kim would eventually faulter and let other competitors back into the running, you’d be sadly mistaken. A birdie to open his back nine would put him -5 and back-to-back birdies on nos. 3 and 4 put him firmly in control at -7. Kim, wanting to sink the final dagger in the championship, managed to card back-to-back birdies for the second occasion on the day on nos. 7 and 8 with a par on no. 9 closing out his round at a staggering -9.

Qualifying individually for the CIF State Boys High School Championship taking place at San Gabriel CC on June 3 are Carter Gaede (-6), Noah Scavo (-6), Lorenzo Sinjem (-6), Peter Oh (-4), Keita Yobiko (-4), Brody Earnest (-4), Sammy Bermant (-3), Romeo Juarez (-3) and Rajveer Hundal (-3).

Sunny Hills HS took home the team championship by a whooping 10 strokes, with impressive rounds from Jonathan Jeon shooting -3 (71) and Felipe Jikal shooting -2 (72) to help the Lancers shoot a championship low -13 (357).

The two teams joining Sunny Hills HS at the CIF State Boys High School Championship are Classical Academy (-3) and Los Alamitos HS (+2).
