The SCGA Women’s Team Play season came to a close on Sunday at Sandpiper GC in Goleta. New this year, two champions were crowned. Wood Ranch GC out of Simi Valley, captured the newly created Gross Division Championship and California CC out of Whittier capturing the Net Division crown.
The Gross Division Championship was a hard-fought battle that required extra holes, the team out of Wood Ranch triumphed over Mountaingate CC. The matches were back and forth, where one team would win a match, only to be equaled by their opponent in the next match. It came down to the final group, where Mountaingate had to win the hole to extend the championship. A clutch par won the hole and gave both Mountaingate and Wood Ranch six points apiece and sent the match to a sudden-death playoff. On the first playoff hole, Wood Ranch came through with a par and took home their first SCGA Women’s Team Play title.
The Net Division Championship saw Seven Oaks CC out Bakersfield get off to a fast start and win the first two matches to give them an early 4-0 lead. With their backs against the wall and needing points, California CC won the final four matches to come away with the 8-4 victory and the Net division crown. This is also California CC’s first SCGA Women’s Team Play Championship.
