The duo of Tom Seidl and Greg Marks (El Dorado Park GC) used a net-birdie on No. 18 to take home the 41st SCGA Four-Ball Net Championship at Soboba Springs GC.
Seidl/Marks were tied with the team of Frank Manzano (Muroc Lake GC) and Don Younger (Rancho Vista GC) at 17-under headed into the final hole. Marks provided the winning putt to secure the championship by one stroke, as the duo finished at 18-under 126.
As 52 teams ham and egged through 36 holes, the sides of David Hutchinson/Raymond Munoz of Antelope Valley CC and Dennis Kirkland/Doug Kirkland of West Valley Northrop Grumman emerged as clubhouse leaders after one round, shooting ten-under 62. Twelve teams trailed them by three strokes or less, setting the stage for a tightly contested finale.
Manzano/Younger surged to the top of the leaderboard after posting an 11-under in the second round that followed a 6-under on Monday. The team’s second round score allowed them to finish solo second, despite tying with Jeff Perry and John Hadley of Red Hill CC at 17-under, due to the USGA’s method of matching scorecards for the last nine holes in the case of a tie.
Hutchinson/Munoz, who placed fifth in the 2020 championship, finished fourth at 16-under.
