In a tightly contested two-day event, Andrew Morgan and Adam Anderson emerged from the pack to capture the 31st SCGA Four-Ball Championship at The Farms GC this week. The duo entered the second round with a two-stroke deficit, shooting a first-round 64.
They responded by posting the tournament's lowest round, 61, to finish 19-under 125 and win the championship by one stroke over the overnight leaders; Luke Potter (2021 SCGA Player of the Year) and Dylan Menante.
Anderson caught fire early on in the second round, sticking his tee shot on the par-three second hole close enough to sink a birdie. On the next hole, a par-five, the high school freshman reached the green in two shots, and sunk his eagle putt to tie Potter and Menante at 11-under. Entering the back nine, Team Potter and Menante regained a one-stroke lead. Although Anderson/Morgan continued to surge, combining for five consecutive birdies to start, adding one more on Hole No. 16, which was enough to topple Potter/Menante and take home the title. Morgan, a former collegiate golfer at the University of California, accounted for four of the six birdies his team posted on the back.
Tyler Gulliksen and Charlie Reiter shot 16-under to finish in third place, while Hunter Reed and Matthew Pennington finished at 15-under for fourth place. Lincoln Melcher/Jin Nakao (2020 third place finishers) and Scotland Schmidt/Elijah Poppers finished T5 at 12-under. 2020 runner-ups Kyler Sauer and Alton Anderson finished T10 at nine-under.
