On a cloudy and rainy day at Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, Kathy Kurata, now four-time winner, once again defended her SCGA Senior Women's Amateur title.

This wasn't an easy feat this time around. Coming into the second round she started a few strokes behind and stayed that way for the first few holes in the morning. It was hole 5 where she sunk a 10-foot putt for birdie that kickstarted her game and brought her closer to the top.

For a while Mary Budke still had 3 strokes on Kurata and maintained that lead for the front nine. When Budke shot a double on 12 and Kurata was steadily making par after par, they were neck and neck for the duration of the round and the battle for the title was either player's to claim.

After going back and forth from being tied for first to leading, it was hole 16 that gave Kurata more momentum as she sunk another impressive putt to make birdie while Budke lost her lead . On 17 she was able to get her chip within 3-feet of the hole to make par and then on 18 sealed the deal with a bunker shot that landed her about 2 feet from the hole.

Her short game and constant drives down the middle helped her secure her title for the fourth time.

Also earning awards were Monica Ledes and Mary Budke who were tied for second and Glenda Alexander and Shelly Haywood tied at fourth.
