Jung Modrich became the first woman to capture a One-Day Series title at The Havens CC, defeating Brian Beard 1-up in the championship match to conclude a ten-month long race to the pinnacle of the SCGA's One-Day Series program.

After competing in numerous One-Day Series events throughout the year, Modrich placed in the top 32 at the end of the regular season to punch her ticket to The Havens CC for the championship. After one round of stroke play on Monday, Modrich, along with seven additional top finishers, went head-to-head in an eight-player, single elimination bracket to determine the champion.

As the top seed, Modrich won her quarterfinal and semifinal matches handily, 3&2 and 4&2, respectively.  That set up the championship match with Beard, who had also dominated his route to the title match (5&4 and 5&3 wins).

The match began tightly, with Brian and Jung tied after the first five holes. Jung took the lead on the sixth hole with a net-birdie, and retained it through the remainder of the front nine. Jung further extended her lead, going 2-up by hole 14. Brian did make a charge, however, picking up the next two holes to even the match with two to play.

Modrich would take the 17th and avoided extra holes by splitting the 18th to win 1-up and not only clinch the season-long title, but take home One-Day Series Player of the Year honors in addition.

SCGA One-Day Series is open to all SCGA members, regardless of Handicap Index. Events contain both net and gross flights and range from individual to team competitions. Learn more about the program here.
