In a battle of two current USC Trojans, it was Katherine Muzi who fought her way to the SCGA Women’s Match Play Championship at Mission Viejo CC.
The championship match was a see-saw battle from start to finish. Navarrosa jumped out to an early lead by taking the first hole, before Muzi battled back with wins on No. 2 and 3. After continued back-and-forth blows for the front-nine, Navarrosa had a slight 1UP edge heading into the final nine holes of the three-day championship.
On No. 10, Navarrosa rolled in a birdie on the uphill par-4 to take a 2UP lead, but again Muzi fought back with a birdie of her own to spark a back-nine charge. Re-energized, Muzi would go on a tear by winning three-straight holes on No. 13-15 to put herself 2UP with three to play. On the downhill par-3 16th, Muzi slammed the door shut with a 8-foot birdie.
