Palm Desert, Calif. – “Hot” was the prevailing word of the day at Classic Club as Fullerton GC captured their first SCGA Team Play Championship defeating Red Hill CC 30-18 on Saturday. With temperatures reaching 106 degrees and gusts kicking up in the afternoon, both teams were fiercely tested over the 6,226 yard Classic Club layout.
It looked like the match was going to come down to the end after each team was tied 6-6 early but as the matches progressed on the back nine, Fullerton took control and captured 24 of the remaining 36 points. The title was sealed for Fullerton when Brent Kanitra made a 10-foot bogey putt on the 18th hole to win his singles match over Wally Sinner of Red Hill. “We have knocked on the door a couple of times but finally broke it down,” Kanitra said. “It is a great journey and so much fun to compete in Team Play.” Fullerton battled nearly 125 other Saturday teams throughout four months of competition in the most popular tournament program that the SCGA has to offer.
