Anna Song made history at Morongo GC on Sunday as she clinched the 2024 Southern California Junior Amateur Championship with the lowest final score in championship history (-11).
The Stanford women’s golf commit was the only player in the field to log all three of her rounds in the 60’s (69-69-67) to earn a comfortable three-stroke victory.
“I thought that I played really well,” said Song. “I think the first day I hit the ball great and gave myself good opportunities. I putted pretty well throughout the three days so I was really happy about that.”
Consistent from start to finish, Song’s play over the course of three rounds left no doubt that she was in control.
Song’s opening round 69 put her one stroke off the lead. Her scorecard included a birdie on the 8th hole and back-to-back birdies on the 16th and 17th, keeping her at 3-under to close out the first 18.
“I thought the course was especially challenging this week,” said Song. “The greens were rolling super nicely, definitely a little fast.”
Song found her way to another 69 on day two but took a different path to get there. She went out and shot a 32 on the front nine, scoring birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 6th holes. Though she faced some challenges on the back nine, she held her ground with several pars, ensuring she stayed in contention ahead of the final day.
She trailed by one stroke entering Sunday and saved her best round for last. With birdies on the 4th and 6th holes, she established a multiple-stroke lead and never let up. She converted four more birdies on the back-nine; her only blemish being a bogey on the 15th.
“I’ve definitely been working on taking it one shot at a time and not trying to get ahead of myself and I think I really put that into play this week,” said Song.
Song’s win earns her exemption into the 2025 SCGA Women’s Amateur at Torrey Pines and 2025 California Women’s Amateur.
